Massachusetts is a state in New England, located in the northeast United States, on the Atlantic coast. Massachusetts is bordered by the states of New Hampshire and Vermont at the north by New York to the west, Connecticut and Rhode Island at the south, the Atlantic Ocean to the east. The island of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are located south of Cape Cod. Boston is the largest city in the state (agglomeration of about 5.8 million), but most of the population lives in the suburbs of the metropolis. Massachusetts is called a state of bays, due to several bays on its shores: the Massachusetts Bay, Cape Cod Bay, Buzzards Bay, and Narragansett Bay. In the west there are mountain ranges Taconic and Berkshire.
