Please read the following independent drivers review on this vehicle: Lexuses are legendary for their reliability and sophistication, whether SUVs, coupes, or upscale sedans. The 460 is the ultimate expression of the Lexus creed, which is the pursuit of what their owners, Toyota, call “perfection’. The success of the breed in the marketplace is ample proof that they are doing something right, even if critics accuse the company of producing automobiles that are too bland. I think they are confusing blandness with an unobtrusive form of luxury that appeals to a broad spectrum of luxury car owners. Lexus have sold tens of thousands of automobiles in the relatively few years they have been around, which is eloquent testimony to their sense of the marketplace and the quality of their automobiles.
The 460, available in a standard configuration or as a long wheel based limousine, is the flagship of the Lexus fleet. It shows from the moment you sink into the driver’s seat. Sink is the right word, for there are few more comfortable seats around, a nice combination of armchair luxury and support in the right places—everything infinitely adjustable, of course. You press the starter button and the car whispers into life with barely a murmur. It takes seconds to adjust everything to your needs and away you go. You progress through even thick traffic in virtual silence, so good is the soundproofing. The engine is barely audible, except when you put your foot down hard. Even then, the light growl from astern is almost apologetic, as if the car is sorry to intrude on your serenity. This is an excellent daily driver, with a lovely stereo, moon roof, and all the goodies you can imagine, to keep you calm and poised as you venture to the mall or navigate the seemingly endless traffic jams of today’s California. Driving on the freeway is almost surreal, the 460 is so quiet. The steering is precise yet seemingly detached from the road, the silence is near absolute, and you waft along in sinful luxury. This is a simply marvelous long-distance car, at home at 65 or well into three figures if you can do it. Long distance commuting would be a breeze, a cross-country trip a bagatelle. You’ll actually look forward to traveling distance in the 460, it’s that comfortable and accommodating. On country roads, you can slip into sport mode and use the shifter to change gear for steeper corners. Everything is precise and comfortable, with no indecent leaning or squealing. But your progress will be stately rather than extreme, but that’s what the car’s designed for. The 460 is extremely pleasant to drive, but much of its design caters to your passengers, who will enjoy comfort found in very few luxury automobiles.
My biggest impression was one of serenity, of an almost total detachment from the road and the outside world. The 460 is never visceral, never bad mannered—it’s just Lexus’s definition of automotive perfection, which is a very good one-- what a lot of people are looking for. This lovely automobile will appeal to a fairly broad audience if pre-owned. You can find them at competitive prices. If you are looking at a new medium-sized sedan, you might want to contemplate a low mileage 460. It will last for years and give you both comfort and reliability. And, of course, if you’re looking for an automobile that will waft you dressed up to the nines to a gala or a premiere in style, look no further.
This one-owner example has just under 60,000 miles on the odometer, has been thoroughly checked over, and is in absolutely spotless condition. It is loaded with every option imaginable including a moon roof and navigation. If you’re looking for a pre-owned luxury sedan, this is about as good as it gets, and would be much nicer to own tha
