Nissan admits the 2004 Quest minivan had a polarizing interior that featured many architectural elements. Standout features of the old interior were the center-mounted instrument cluster and rear skylights. While the skylights have proved popular — and are carried over in the 2007 model — the instrument cluster has been replaced by a more conventional design thats positioned in front of the driver. With the change, Nissan hopes it has eliminated what might have kept people away — odd interior ergonomics — while retaining the attractive bits. Nissan also said it felt the issue was important enough to deal with in the middle of a model cycle rather than waiting for a full redesign. Also, while some other automakers — mostly domestic ones — are considering moving away from the minivan market, Nissan says it is revising the Quest because it sees minivans as a growing market segment. The Quest is sold in four variations: 3.5, 3.5 S, 3.5 SL and 3.5 SE., , Not a lot has changed outside, but the 07 Quest does feature a new grille, headlights and chrome accents on items like the door handles. The roof rack has been revised and features a satin, metal-like look. The wheels have also been redesigned — both the base 16-inch wheel covers and the 17-inch alloy wheels. The rest of the exterior looks much the same as the model that was introduced for the 2004 model year, with its low beltline in front that rises as it moves toward the rear. Strongly defined, almost fender-like wheel arches continue to set the Quest apart from the rest of the minivan field. The biggest difference up front is the absence of the center gauges. In their place is a more conventional dash. The dash-mounted gearshift lever stands out, but its now shaped more like those of competitors. Theres also a larger glove box. A fixed center console between the driver and front passenger seat is a new option and includes a hidden storage compartment. (Those who dont choose that option get a folding tray table in the same position.) Both the second- and third-row seats fold for more cargo room, and Nissan says it has revised its third-row folding seat to make it easier to fold using one hand. Theres also new trim, in either a faux wood style or with a brushed, metal look that has been added along with chrome bezels around the gauges., , While the rear skylight windows remain, Nissan says it has redesigned almost every panel to reduce interior noise and improve fit and finish. The front-wheel-drive Quest comes with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that makes 240 horsepower. A five-speed-automatic transmission, which now has wider gear ratios to improve acceleration, is standard. Antilock brakes, active head restraints for the front seats, traction control and three-row side curtain-type airbags are standard. An electronic stability system and side-impact airbags for the front seats are optional.
