Made in Spartanburg, South Carolina, primarily for the American market, the X5 has nearly the handling and performance virtues of its sedan relatives, with extra ground clearance and an appropriate amount of rugged good looks. It looks like an SUV, but BMW calls it a ''Sports Activity Vehicle'', or SAV. The X5 has been the class benchmark since its introduction, and this 2007 model continues the tradition. The 3.0-liter, 260hp, inline six-cylinder engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, and features the famous ''xDrive'' full-time all-wheel drive system. Over-all, this X5 is the Ultimate ''SAV''.
