1985 Ford Mustang 5.0L convertible. This Mustang will not pass the visual portion of the California Smog due to an engine swap out of a 1991 Ford Mustang and headers installed on this vehicle and therefore CAN NOT BE SOLD IN CALIFORNIA. This Mustang runs great and sounds good. , , , , Offered For Sale by the California Automobile Museum, , , , This Mustang was the Muscle car of the mid 80’s and is the 3rd generation of this Ford., , , , Exterior-, , The exterior of this mustang is in pretty good shape, no dents or major scratches. It has an older paint job done in 2002. The top is in great condition and fits nicely. There is a hole in the trunk lid but appears to have been there for perhaps an antenna but was there before the paint was done. The convertible boot cover is in good shape and fits well over the top when it is retracted. There is a touch up on the right front fender about 6 inches by 1 in that is visible when standing close. All of the lenses are in good condition and are not cracked or chipped. There is some small amounts of overspray on some of the trim pieces. Overall this vehicle is in good condition and has a straight body., , , , Interior-, , The interior is clean and the seats are in good condition. The back seats appear to be original. The front seats fabric is not the same as back but is close and appears to be possibly from a newer mustang, but they are in good shape with no tears or rips. The carpeting looks original but is in pretty good shape. The carpets have some staining but may be able to be cleaned up. The door panels are in decent shape although the front lower corners have started to bend outward., , , , Mechanical-, , Mechanically the Mustang runs and drives well. This vehicle will not pass smog in California because the engine has been replaced with a 5.0 out of a 1991 Mustang and has BEK headers installed that are not emissions compliant. It would not pass on the visual inspection but passed everything else. It has a B&M Hammer Shifter installed for shifting the automatic transmission. All the electric windows work but the rear ones are slow. The convertible top will not retract or go back into position with the switch but will go up and down manually. It has a hydraulic leak at the left cylinder that pushes the top up. The motor runs and it tries to work but the fluid seeps out. The doors open and close as they should. The lock pull on the passenger door is missing. The electric door locks work and the missing lock pull does not interfere with locking the vehicle. The adjusting mechanism on the driver’s side mirror is broken but the mirror is usable. The horn and the stereo wiring need to be checked out. Although it has air conditioning it does not blow cold. , , , , Overview-, , Overall this is a good driver quality Mustang that unfortunately can’t live in California anymore. Please understand that it CAN NOT BE SOLD IN CALIFORNIA AND WILL NOT PASS SMOG IN CALIFORNIA. With that said please contact me with any questions about the Mustang that you may have. The 3 manuals pictured will also come with the vehicle.
