Stk. 1681 1974 Plymouth Duster, This two owner Duster has led an interesting life over its 38 year existence. For the first 34 years, it provided all the routine services...take its owner to work, pick up the dry cleaning, go to the grocery store and of course…church on Sundays. Well, after 34 years with its original owner, this little slant-six cylinder's life was about to change dramatically! Its capable 225 slant six motor was jettisoned in favor of a 440 plant, stroked to 470 ci and built by Steve Bowman of S&S Mopars. Add to that, a whole host of who's who parts…like Indy 440-1 heads and intake, Holley 1100 Dominator carb, Comp Cams roller cam and lifters, Wiseco forged flat top pistons, Eagle H beam rods, MSD ignition and add to all that a nitrous set-up good for an extra 100 horsepower! An Andy Mays 770 Mopar transmission with aluminum billet input and output shafts and a 9" PTC torque converter were selected to help channel all that madness via a narrowed Dana 60 rear end housing Richmond 40 spline axles and spinning a Richmond 4.10 gear. The chassis was also massaged to bring it up to its new challenge. The upper control arms were updated with tubular along with a Cal Trac rear link setup including the rear springs. To control all this new found speed you'll find polished Aerospace four piston disc brakes, with two piece, 11" vented rotors at all four corners. As the final link to hooking up with the pavement, are four 15 "American Racing Street lite race wheels shod with Firestone F560, 165/R15's up front and Mickey Thompson P315/60 R15 cheaters in the rear. Melton's Hot Rod Shop performed a full rotisserie restoration to the body. All this effort (1500 hours to complete) culminated into one ultra transformed machine. Also, if you just happened to attend the 2009 Pinks All Out competition at our very own Z-Max Dragway, you will remember that this car competed there admirably, with a low E.T. of 8.756 and a speed of 158.43. We have the time slips and pictures and a great build book detailing this complete makeover that come with this one of a kind machine.
