We always wanted either a 70-72 El Camino SS to use, and since prices on them have been skyrocketing, it's been difficult...if not impossible finding one priced reasonably that was reliable enough to be used daily. Once we got it back to NY, we garaged it and worked on it a little at a time, turning it into what it is today, a presentable and cool driver. It has received NEW PAINT, NEW stripes, lots of NEW interior pieces, NEW wheels, NEW mirrors, NEW wheel well modlings, some engine detailing-tuning and lots of other minor work Body is very nice and straight with very few waves in it. Doors open and close nicely. Gaps are all good from what I could see and panel fit is pretty good overall for an old Chevy. OPTIONS: Power steering Power DISC front brakes Remote mirror (disconnected) Cowl induction air cleaner setup Bench seat interior 350ci V8 Automatic transmission on the column SS 350 Package 12 bolt rear end Dual exhaust Added tow hitch 15 Rally wheels with radial tires Mechanically the 350ci V8 in it it fires right up and sounds great. Transmission is a Turbo Hydramatic on the column with a mild shift kit and it shifts seamlessly without any noises. Now as for driving the car, i've taken it out mostly around the neighborhood here and there for a few functions, and sometimes we take it to the Island for a cruise. Brakes work well. Steers nice and swift without too much play in the wheel. Overall very sound and reliable car that can be used daily with minor tlc. Motor is the factory 350 V8 which is basically all stock except for an upgraded 4bbl. carburetor and long-tube headers going into the dual exhaust. Like I said, you could get in and drive this car, since it's one of those vehicles that doesn't like sitting for long periods of time (the more you drive it, the better it gets). Interior has had a lot of work done. NEWLY reupholstered bech seat, NEW carpet, NEW headliner some years ago. Door panels could use replacing. Dash is presentable but has a crack between the gauges and the glovebox. Steering wheel has a couple of cracks. Overall a very presentable driver quality interior. Underside is very nice and dry overall, being an original Texas car. This particular El Camino has a NICE frame, VERY SOLID bed with NO large holes or major rot anywhere that I was able to find. Floorboards are in very good shape as well, basically rust-free (driver's side has been previously patched, but looks good). THIS 72 EL CAMINO SS 350 IS NOT PERFECT, SO PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES, ASK QUESTIONS OR COME SEE IT IN PERSON. Paint is NEW and only a few months old. Nicely done for a driver on a fairly straight body to begin with. Some filler here and there of course, but pretty straight and honest car although it is NOT a $10k showcar paintjob so please keep that in mind. Bumpers could use to be upgraded, although they are presentable. The bedliner side trim should be upgraded as well as it is pitting and has dents in various places. Not working: one taillight needs new bulb, horn, radio. Passenger window off track and needs adjustment. Flywheel grinds a little every once in a while at startup. Could use a tune-up down the line. There are various other small issues with it, as with any other old car, and i'm not gonna sit here and list them all as it would be no point. So overall she is nowhere near perfect and will need some form of TLC depending on how nice you want it to be and what you plan to do with the car.
